NASCAR Revisiting Green-White-Checkered Rule
NASCAR is likely to tweak its green-white-checkered rule after some confusion about who won Saturday’s Bud Shootout ensued.
The green-white-checkered rule says that if a race’s defined distance is reached while a caution is out, NASCAR will make one attempt to ensure an exciting finish by running two final laps.
During Saturday’s race, half of the final lap was run under yellow, but a green-white-checkered finish was not called for.
NASCAR Managing Director of Corporate Communications Ramsey Poston tweeted on Wednesday, "Confirmed: NASCAR speaking to drivers re tweak to
GWC–would provide more than 1 attempt prior to white flag–why? more
Green Flag finishes."
